September Update - Hurricane and an Ultrasound!

Hello everyone!

Well we survived Hurricane Ike! We went to Mom and Dad's in Crosby and before the storm hit Saturday we decided to go to Dallas to stay at the Putonti household. We were able to watch all the news and we stayed there until Tuesday Morning. We got virtually no damage to our apartment - though the complex got a lot of wind damage to all the carports - subsequently crushing a lot of cars! We also have electricity and cable so we are so lucky. Mom and Dad have been without electricity since last Friday night - almost a week already! They were very lucky and had no damage from trees to their house and only a lot of debris around to pick up. However, Crosby wasn't so lucky - the damage is unbelievable- all the trees in the heavily forested areas just laying on powerlines everywhere... Centerpoint says that they don't really have a timeline established for when they will have power restored - they just said they know it will be after Monday September 22nd. Some people estimated up to a month or more. We brought them food and ice when we stopped there on Tuesday. They were doing just fine with the cool weather and a really nice friend of Dad's let him borrow their generator as long as they needed it so that is good for them. They haven't been really using it at all yet - they don't want to run it unnecessarily and want to save it for when they really need it - like when this cold front goes away and they are stuck in the heat! Crosby doesn't seem to be getting much FEMA aid - no where really close to go to get supplies like ice water and food - but I think they are faring okay so far! My parents have such a great attitude about it all - Told them they are of course welcome here whenever they like - but they know that is difficult because of all the animals they have at home!

I have posted the most recent Belly photo above! I will post ultrasound pics as soon as I scan them!

We came back Tuesday to go to the doctor's appointment that afternoon. The baby's heart rate was 152 beats per minute and it again just made me breathe a sigh of relief that everything was okay. The doctor's office was busy so when the doctor finally came in everything was kind of rushed. She said that no one else was allowed to have ultrasounds that day but since we were at 20 weeks and wanted to see the sex of the baby - she said she would do a quick one.

She gave me a new prescription for my terrible heartburn so hopefully that will help!

The ultrasound was so amazing. The baby was so much bigger!! I couldn't believe how much the baby had grown! She said she saw boy parts - "I'm pretty sure that's a boy part" and said they would be able to tell us for 100% next week at the big ultrasound appt we have on the 23rd where they measure all the baby's anatomy and look at everything in good detail.

She said everything looked great and printed us off a few more pictures - I will upload them as soon as I get a chance.

Let's see - I am definitely GROWING - my belly is starting to show and it is weird to me to see it everyday.

I finally did gain some weight at this appointment - I am 20 weeks and gained only 1 pound since we started - so that makes me pretty happy since I was definitely concerned about putting on too much too quickly. I know that will increase but as long as it stays in a healthy range that's fine!

I haven't had any nausea problems at all which is fantastic - just killer heartburn and I am pretty hungry all the time! Let's see new cravings --- applesauce, m&m's, Tortilla's with salsa from Pappasittos - I don't even want a meal there just Tortillas! --- burrito bowls from Chipolte or Mission Burrito...

I have also begun to feel the baby moving around. The first time I felt the baby move it was in class and I had just eaten some m&m's - the sugar must have done it or something and it felt like he was doing somersaults in my belly - having a little party in there without me. It just made me so happy. Sometimes I get little fluttery feelings and sometimes it feels like there is an alien in there ! It is such an amazing feeling and a reminder to me of what is to come.

I still feel like it hasn't really hit me yet that I am going to be a mom! Wow...

Matt and I were sitting here watching TV last week and I looked at the dog passed out on the floor and I looked at him and said - you know life is never going to be the same again - and it isn't. Our lives are going to change in the best way ever and it's not very far away! The countdown counter says we have 145 days left. Unbelievable!

Anyway I will stop yakking - I will add the pictures ASAP!

Love you all!

Meg, Matt and Peanut Putonti
